Sadness and Frustration

I'm just going to make a quick post this morning about TPT to see what you all think...

I just sold an item on TPT for $5.00.  It's a 23 page unit over the book, The Chocolate Touch.  This unit includes chapter questions over each question, plus other subject activities to go along with the book.  Someone bought this item and made a comment about it being overpriced for this 'skimpy unit'.  My rating is now a 2.1/4.0 on TPT.

I take a lot of time and effort in the items that I make.  It's heart crushing to hear that others aren't enjoying my items...

Do you think this unit sounds overpriced??  If yes, I'll definitely change it.  Also, what do YOU do when you get a bad review??  (You're all so awesome, I bet you haven't had any!!)  Is there any way to delete this review and get my status back to 4.0/4.0??

Advice needed please!!!

And just so you can truly tell me the truth - I've attached the packet for FREE below :)

  1. I know how you feel, my thoughts are that if a buyer doesn't like a purchase, they should contact you *before* they leave negative feedback.. giving you the opportunity to "make it right". Otherwise, it is just done and there is nothing you can do about it. I have someone give negative feedback on a free item once (really? free??) and then once I had negative with NO explanation!! THAT killed me...I just wanted to know what the issue was, but nope...nada. Just hang in there! Try not to let it get you down. =) Jennifer

  2. I don't sell anything on TPT but I've bought many things and I totally think $5.00 is a fair price for this item. I've paid more than that for items with fewer pages, but I've been happy with all my purchases because they have saved me so much time. Don't be discouraged!

  3. I agree with Jennifer, they should have contacted you first with their concern! that is awful! I just looked over the unit and think it looks well worth 5 dollars! The time and effort put into the discussion questions alone are worth that! In the unit I only saw the discussion question pages, but your info on TPT says it has activities as well, I definitely would not call that skimpy at all! I'm so sorry :(

  4. I believe that you can contact TPT to remove the rating. Sounds like a fair price to me. About the FREE stuff,I know...I've had comments about something I gave away for free. It really bugged me because my feeling is if you don't like it, don't take it.

  5. I have bought other units similar to this and they have also been 5$. I have always been happy because of the time it has saved me! This is totally a fair price for your unit! There will always be those negative people who want their work done for them for free and still complain! I say they should sit down one day and see how long it really takes before they leave a negative comment! Don't sweat it, your unit is awesome :)

  6. I looked over your unit and thought that the price was reasonable for the pages that you provided.

  7. Just wanted to let you know... I received a Versitile Blogger Award and wanted to pass it on to you. Thanks for being an inspiration. Head over to my blog!

  8. I really think that it was unfair that you were given bad feedback. I think that the unit was well worth the price. I would have paid more for this!

  9. I will be honest enough to say that I have purchased stuff from TPT and Teacher's Notbook that I have not been thrilled with. Maybe I am wrong but I just don't leave feedback. I figure it is like when I buy a teacher book that really isn't all that useful or only has 1idea I use. (I don't email them about it.)

Your unit looks great, and I can understand why your feelings are hurt. I know that that those who follow you aren't really going to let your rating influence them. Just like why I don't give are a person, not a number. Hang in there.

  10. I thought it was worth. It takes a lot of time to come up with those discussion questions.

  11. The same thing happened to my friend and I think she contacted TpT, because her rating is a 4.0 again. I also think your unit is work $5.00, if not more. I don't understand the comment, as you listed exactly what your unit contained and how many pages it was. Must be someone having a bad day and taking it out on you. I love your blog and your stuff on TpT and Teachers NB looks FANTABULOUS!!!

  12. OMG, that was not very nice of them. As someone who creates a lot for myself and my fellow teachers I can say you did a great job. Sometimes people need to think before they write. Don't feel bad, what you did was probably way better than what they could come up with. Let the "haters" in the world be just that. Smile and remember, they still paid for it even if they didn't like. Some people will complain about everything.

  13. I'm new to blogging and I have no idea what TPT is, however, I took a look at your unit and have a few suggestions on how to improve it. I noticed that many of the questions were literal. Perhaps you can change some of the questions to higher levels of blooms, or even make them more open ended, so that the student has the opportunity to share questions that he/she asked, or connections he/she has made to the text. Perhaps add an open ended product such as designing a new candy bar using data from a student created survey.

Good luck! I hope this helps!

  14. I did not look at your unit. I am sure it is wonderful. A friend and I were just talking about teachers buying others stuff. I have to say....I really appreciate those who put a smaller price on their stuff...only because it all adds up really fast and there is some much I want. I usually don't pay more than 3.00 for anything because I can't afford to. We were saying that the reason to share is because you believe it is for the good of all children to learn in a fun way. I too would want to get compensated...maybe just hope for more to buy because it is offered for less. Just my thoughts.
